Celebrating International Women’s Day

Posted on: 8 March 2023

International Women’s Day (IWD) takes place every 8 March worldwide and celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. As part of IWD and to celebrate women within the GP Care Group, we asked three colleagues what equity looks like them.

This year’s theme is ‘Embrace Equity’ which recognises that each person has different circumstances and requires specific resources and opportunities to reach an equal outcome. This differs from equality, which means an individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities.

We enjoyed their thoughtful responses, and we believe you will gain some timely insight from them.

Zainab Arian - Incoming acting Chief Executive Officer

“Equity for me looks like us understanding the differences that we have like gender. Acknowledging but more importantly addressing the barriers that this can create. Allowing us to provide opportunities for everyone. We first must have equity before we can enjoy equality”

Farrah Idris - Social Prescriber

“When all women globally are listened and responded to in a just and fair way.”

Layla Abdi - Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Facilitator

“Equity to me means a world where everyone is respected, valued, and is given an equitable opportunity to reach their full potential, free from systemic barriers that obstruct their path.”
