The school health team works in partnership with schools in Tower Hamlets to gain an understanding of the younger population’s health needs and medical requirements.
Through a range of screening programmes, health promotion sessions and regular drop-in sessions, our team of nurses, nursery nurses and support workers aim to improve the physical, emotional and mental health of the children, young people and families within the community.
Our team completes screening for children in primary schools (reception and year 6).
We collect child health information in every school in order to review and update records.
These records are used to develop health profiles in partnership with schools and inform our team as to how many children have long term health conditions, what on-going treatments they require and help to manage priorities and resources within schools.
The nurses discuss a variety of topics such as healthy eating, oral hygiene and minor ailments for children, young people and their parents/carers across primary and secondary schools.
We agree with schools what sessions are appropriate and aim to improve the physical, medical and emotional health of children, young people and families within the community by doing so.
