Sustainability at the Care Group
At the Care Group, we work to support the communities we serve in everything we do.
Part of this is ensuring that the places we live and work are good for our health. We’re doing our part in creating a more sustainable future for our boroughs, where both people and our planet can thrive.
In order to support the NHS net zero ambition, we are developing a sustainability strategy, in line with the North East London Green Plan. This strategy will set out how we plan to reduce carbon emissions, embed sustainability into our daily operations and engage both our staff and GP practices in meaningful climate action.
Our goal is simple: to make sustainability a core part of how we work. From improving energy efficiency in our offices to promoting greener healthcare practices, we are committed to ensuring that climate action becomes business as usual, because a healthier planet means healthier people.
Our Sustainability and Social Value Initiatives
Social Value is the positive impact an organisation creates beyond financial profit. Social Value in healthcare organisations refers to the broader impact they create beyond clinical services. Social Value in healthcare is all about the bigger picture which could include:
- Improving communities
- Reducing gaps in health inequality
- Boosting local economies
- Being sustainable
It’s making sure every decision, from hiring to partnerships, actually benefits people and the planet in the long run.
The following points illustrate our commitment to this initiative and what we are doing to enhance Social Value in our organisation.
1. Enabling Healthier Communities. We are providing our community with health and wellbeing activities to promote healthier lifestyles and prevent illness.
2. Green Project. We are aligning our Care Group green strategy with the North East London (NEL) Green Plan to ensure our sustainability efforts are in harmony with regional goals.
3. Buy Local. We are using local suppliers for Care Group procurement to help boost the local economy and reduce our carbon footprint associated with transportation.
4. Training and Development. We are providing our community with employment opportunities within the Care Group to support local economic growth and development.
